Watchdog is a web-watching service operated by graficial.com. The short version: we keep what it takes to run your account and watch your pages, nothing more, and we never sell any of it.
What we don't do
- No ads.
- Apart from Google Analytics, no cookies unless you sign in. Your browser also keeps whether you last used the cards, the graph or the brief, so Watchdog can open that view again; that never leaves your browser.
- We don't sell or share personal data, and we don't build profiles of you.
Visit statistics
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which parts of Watchdog people use. It sets its own cookies, and Google receives the pages you view, your browser and device details, and your IP address. We never send it your email, your account details or the pages you watch. You can block it with Google's opt-out add-on or any tracker blocker; Watchdog works the same either way.
Your account
For an account we store:
- your email address, used to sign you in and for account emails;
- a salted hash of your password (never the password itself);
- the pages you watch, their names and schedules, and how their checks went;
- your Dog Treats balance, and a record of what each treat paid for;
- your latest brief;
- when you created the account and last signed in.
Signing in sets one cookie, which keeps you signed in. It's needed for the account to work and isn't used for anything else. It ends when you sign out, or after 30 days without a visit.
The people who run Watchdog can see accounts and the pages they watch. We look only to keep the service running, fix problems, and enforce the terms.
The pages you watch
Watchdog visits your pages from our servers, never from your browser, so the sites see us, not you. A page that several people watch is checked once and shared, but nobody can see who else watches it.
Reading a page uses AI models. They run on our own hardware or at an AI provider such as Anthropic, which receives the text of the public page for that purpose only. Your email and account details are never sent with it.
Trying Watchdog without an account
When you try a page on the front page, Watchdog checks it and keeps the result for about two hours, so the next visitor gets it faster. To stop anyone from overloading it, your IP address is counted in memory for an hour, then forgotten. Sign-in and sign-up attempts are limited the same way.
Emails
We only email you about your account: a welcome when you sign up, a password-reset link when you ask for one, and notice of important changes to Watchdog. Never newsletters or marketing. These emails are sent through Resend, which receives your address and the message for that purpose only.
Server logs
Like any website, the servers and reverse proxy that host Watchdog may keep standard, short-lived technical access logs: your IP address, the time, the page requested and your browser's user agent. These are kept for security and to keep the service running. They aren't used to profile visitors, and aren't shared except where the law requires it.
Fonts and icons
Fonts and site icons are served from our own server, so your browser makes no requests to third-party font or icon services.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time on the Account page. That removes your email, password hash, sessions, watched pages, brief and treat history. Copies of public pages that Watchdog read are not about you; they stay in the shared cache until they expire or someone else's checks replace them.
If we close an account for breaking the terms, we may keep its email address and the pages it added, so it can't simply sign up again, and anything the law requires us to keep or report.
Links to other sites
When you click a headline, you leave Watchdog and go to the publisher's site. Its own privacy policy applies there.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted on this page, with the date above. Questions? Email hello@graficial.com.
